The Journey Home is Baltimore City’s plan to make homelessness rare and brief. The plan is overseen by the Continuum of Care, which is a coalition of service providers, funders, advocates, government agencies, and community stakeholders. The Homeless Services Program in the Mayor’s Office of Human Services is the designated lead agency for the Continuum of Care and works to implement federal, state, and local policy and best practices in addition to administering and monitoring homeless services grants.
Flavor Uma was selected as Journey Home’s strategy and branding partner. We designed an awareness building and fundraising campaign that brought people from the Baltimore community together for a signature event to learn about the realities of homelessness and ensure a shared commitment to include everyone, especially people with lived experience, at the decision table. This community event – a meal shared with more than 478 members of the Baltimore community on October 4, 2019 – broke the Guinness World Records for Most People Breaking Bread. Flavor Uma is also developing fundraising and messaging strategies for Journey Home to change the way the community interacts with people with lived experiences of homelessness.
Through these efforts, Flavor Uma is helping Journey Home increase community awareness around the issue of homelessness and strengthening partnerships between key community stakeholders working on this issue in Baltimore.
