About This Project

Cooking healthy is a skill every kid deserves to learn. Founded by Flavor Uma, Every Kid Can Cook empowers youth ages 7-17 to cook healthier and become nutrition change-makers in their families and communities by providing nutrition education, culinary experiences, and leadership opportunities. In 2018, Every Kid Can Cook provided 5,700 youth with cooking classes, food demonstrations, healthy tastings, and nutrition education.

This year, Every Kid Can Cook is operating programs in 11 schools (5 in Maryland, 3 in Atlanta, and 2 in New Orleans) with 100 Kid Ambassador Youth Nutrition Leaders. We are on track to provide 50,000 youth nationally and 25,000 youth in Maryland (Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Howard County) with cooking experiences, healthy tastings, and nutrition education.

Every Kid Can Cook hosts an annual National Healthy Kids Can Cook Day which gives all kids an opportunity to cook healthy by empowering schools, communities, and family leaders to facilitate simple, fun, accessible, and flavorful healthy cooking class. Our hope is that the day inspires change in schools and communities to incorporate more hands-on cooking classes using local and healthy food, inclusive of  kids with a variety of eating preferences, dietary needs, and income levels.
